United Nations International Day of Education 24 January

This week teachers have been discussing the importance of education with our students. The UN declared today, January 24, 2019, the first International Day of Education.

For children in Finland who are used to coming to school, it is difficult to understand that there are, according to the UN, around 265 million children and adolescents who are not provided the chance to enter or complete school.

A lot of our discussions with students centered around why education is important, what the students like about school, and what they want to be when they grow up.

Our second grade teacher Leni talked about the importance of schools and education with her students. Leni gave her students time to think and write individually about four questions she provided. The students then discussed their answers in small groups and planned their own videos. In each group, 2-3 kids were in charge of filming and editing the video while four kids were performed on camera. The students had a lot of fun with the project and have some short videos to share! Please enjoy the wonderful 2C’s videos!
